Black garlic is generally unsuitable for individuals with weak gastrointestinal function, hypoglycemia, or allergic constitutions, as well as those recovering from surgery or taking anticoagulant medications.

1. Individuals with weak gastrointestinal function:
Black garlic contains irritating sulfides that may aggravate the gastrointestinal mucosa. Consumption can easily trigger symptoms such as acid reflux and bloating in people with gastroenteritis or gastric ulcers. It is recommended that such individuals opt for steamed or boiled regular garlic to minimize irritation and avoid eating it on an empty stomach.
2. Individuals with hypoglycemia:
Black garlic has blood-sugar-lowering properties; consuming it while taking diabetes medication may lead to excessively low blood sugar. Common symptoms include dizziness and cold sweats. Blood sugar levels should be monitored, and medication dosages adjusted if necessary.
3. Individuals with allergic constitutions:
Allyl sulfides produced during the fermentation of black garlic may trigger allergic reactions, such as skin itching or swelling of the lips. Individuals with a history of allergies to alliums (such as onions or garlic) should undergo allergy testing before deciding whether to consume it.
4. Individuals recovering from surgery:
The anticoagulant properties of black garlic may interfere with wound healing. Consumption should be avoided for 1–2 weeks following major surgery to prevent an increased risk of bleeding. Small amounts may be gradually introduced once blood clotting function has returned to normal.
5. Individuals taking anticoagulant medications:
Active ingredients in black garlic may enhance the anticoagulant effects of drugs such as warfarin and aspirin. Concurrent use requires regular monitoring of prothrombin time to prevent bleeding tendencies, such as subcutaneous bruising or bleeding gums.
Healthy individuals should limit daily black garlic intake to no more than 10 grams, ideally consuming it in smaller portions to avoid irritation. If significant discomfort occurs after consumption, stop eating it immediately and seek medical attention. Store in a sealed container away from light, and consume promptly after opening to prevent mold growth. Individuals with specific health conditions should start with a very small amount when trying it for the first time and wait 24 hours to ensure there are no adverse reactions before increasing the intake. Those taking medication for chronic conditions should consult a doctor regarding dietary adjustments.
